Safeguarding and Remote Education during Coronavirus
Safeguarding and remote education during coronavirus (COVID-19)
Safeguarding pupils and teachers online
St Jude’s has established guidance for Remote Learning should a child, year group or the whole school be required to self-isolate. Were this to happen, we will continue to follow safeguarding procedures.
As part of the Computing curriculum, your child will learn about e-safety and how to stay safe online. In order to continue this, parents and carers are strongly encouraged to set age-appropriate parental controls on digital devices and use internet filters to block malicious websites. These are usually free, but often need to be turned on.
The following websites will support parents and carers to keep their children safe online:
Thinkuknow provides advice from the National Crime Agency (NCA) on staying safe online
Parent info is a collaboration between Parentzone and the NCA providing support and guidance for parents from leading experts and organisations
Childnet offers a toolkit to support parents and carers of children of any age to start discussions about their online life, to set boundaries around online behaviour and technology use, and to find out where to get more help and support
Internet matters provides age-specific online safety checklists, guides on how to set parental controls on a range of devices, and a host of practical tips to help children get the most out of their digital world
London Grid for Learning has support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online, including tips to keep primary aged children safe online
Net-aware has support for parents and carers from the NSPCC, including a guide to social networks, apps and games

Communicating with parents, carers and pupils
In the event of your child’s education having to take place remotely, it’s important to ensure professional conduct is maintained. When communicating online with parents and pupils, we will:
- communicate within school hours as much as possible (or hours agreed with the school to suit the needs of staff)
- communicate through the school channels approved by the senior leadership team
- use school email accounts (not personal ones)
- use school devices over personal devices wherever possible
- advise teachers not to share personal information
Online Lessons and Videos
Staff at St Jude’s will use a combination of pre-recorded videos and other online resources to provide a balanced curriculum which reflects the learning which would be taking place in class. We will ensure that these resources are in line with safeguarding policies and are from recommended sources.
Providing pastoral care remotely
We understand that supporting your child with their home schooling can be for some, a challenging or daunting prospect. If you would like guidance in how to support your child with their home schooling, your child’s class teacher or the school ELSA can offer guidance in how to make a weekly plan or structure, that includes time for education, playing and relaxing, in order to reduce stress and anxiety for families.
Personal data and GDPR
As a school we will continue to follow best practices and conform with GDPR requirements.
