The pre-school children and staff had lots of fun at the Leavers' Party. We played party games including musical chairs, danced to music with the bubble machine and had lovely party food. A good time was had by all!

As part of the 60th Anniversary of St Jude's Catholic Primary School, all the children in the school and pre-school decorated a stone with a nature theme. The children really enjoyed this activity. All the stones were placed in the sensory garden in the school grounds.

The children have enjoyed learning about the parts of a plant. They learned songs about plant growth and the needs of a plant. The children made beanstalks after listening to the 'Jack and the Beanstalk' story using pasta, leaves, beads and pipe cleaners. They decorated a plant pot each, chose a seed to plant and watered it. The children had lovely snacks to eat such as snack in the shape of flowers and food from 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' story. Some of the children helped to build our new greenhouse. The children will take their plants home as they grow!

The children have been learning about minibeasts this term. They made butterflies, spiders, caterpillars, biscuits and bees using a range of media including paint, collage, 3D modelling and playdough.

The children have spent an increasing amount of time outdoors this term. They have enjoyed exploring in the sensory garden, playing on the climbing equipment, running on the school fields and playing in the pre-school playground.

As the weather has improved, the children have taken part in more water play activities. They have played in the water tray, used squirters, painted the wall with paintbrushes and rollers and used reusable water bombs. Lots of fun was had!

Much fun was had as Year 4 children spent a day and a night living like a Viking! Indoor activities included making butter and cheese, grinding flour and chopping vegetables. The outdoor group were mining chalk and making bricks and sawing and splinting wood for the fire. Some children proved it be experts in the evening Viking games!

The theme for STEM week was 'adapt and change'. We were set the challenge of making musical instruments and to experiment with creating different pitches. We experimented the thickness of wood, the number of elastic bands and the type of paper between the wooden sticks.

To celebrate the end of our Ancient Greece topic, Year 5 visited Southampton Art Gallery. The children took part in two hands-on workshops, where they will developed key skills and techniques using clay to sculpt a Medusa head, as well as developing their sketching skills. As well as this, the children learned about the story of Perseus through the series of paintings.
